AGS Reviews

no comment

Alright, so. It’s about midnight and I am into some more AGS projects… but I’m teaming up this time! I’m done with my portion of the work for today and feel like if I don’t keep being productive I’ll explode. That being said, here’s a nice little review of discordance’s:

“How They Found Silence”

Will contain spoilers. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

So what’s this all about anyway? Turns out you’re Rolande, the last of the treasure hunters. You’ve been called to an unusual place by a ‘Lord Fern’ who needs your help finding an infamous treasure. Sounds a bit simple, sure, but it’s certainly a refreshing plot in the AGS world as far as I’m concerned.

The first thing you may notice is the graphical end of things. The graphics are minimal. Perhaps too minimal at times. However, Discordance still manages to do a decent job of creating an atmosphere if not only with the music, clever visual cues and exchanges between the characters. There are several moments in the game where you will find yourself genuinely intrigued or frightened, possibly the core of what makes the game enjoyable.

Overall, the gameplay is pretty decent as well. Some puzzles and exchanges may seem a bit contrived, but this is really a minor gripe as nothing is too far out of place and generally works well.

The music and sound effects do a good job of capturing your attention from the minute the game begins. The music may seem a bit repetitive at times when backtracking, though.

I’m a bit at a loss in some ways. I was completely blown away by some of the subplot, (the little girl and how she talked about the doll was simply chilling) but I feel like it never really went anywhere. The doll successfully made me wet myself on several occasions, but by the time of the story’s end, I hadn’t learned much about him or why he felt the need to creep around on the guests.

Without giving too terribly much away:
Faults and all, the overall experience is simply solid and certainly a good way to spend an hour or two.
